Alternative to Roon | Page 2 | Audio Science Review (ASR) Forum

Sep 24, · Audirvana works great with the Zen Stream. So does Roon. Both integrate Tidal and Qobuz and run on Windows PCs. On top of that you can use a browser on your PC to control the Stream and play files off a NAS or an attached USB stick, HDD or SSD. Qobuz sounds better playing via Audirvana to the Stream then from Audirvana directly to the DAC. Feb 09, · Any edge Audirvana might have had on them in the SQ department is minimal at best now given their recent updates. I switched to Roon when Audirvana Studio was announced, I just wish I would have done it sooner. Any suggestions of something that does similar in respect of streaming around the house?
I can stream to any box from basically anything that has Roon on it. I know Volumio can’t do this. Can JRiver with Airplay? What about others? I have Volumio on my main system but all so run Picoreplayer with the core on my NAS box and a raspberry pi3 with the pi 7in touch screen running Picoreplayer just the player on it with some old pc speakers for the time i am the garage, works very well and i sometimes have this connected to the wife’s stereo in the kitchen.

You appear to have missed that the OP already has some AirPlay supporting Cambridge Audio speakers, a Cambridge Audio CXN and a mysterious ‘PC’, all apparently ready to be used as the network music players – so doesn’t appear to need piCorePlayer’s own Squeezelite network music player.
Also, I would have partially agreed with you if you had mentioned precisely what piCorePlayer is actually using as its ‘core’ – the free Logitech Media Server. Thanks all. Yes Volumio was ‘briefly’ considered as I’d been told it was a cheaper alternative to Roon, which, after looking isn’t. I’ve got JRiver to work but it’s a little clunky compared to Roon. It’s running headless at the moment as I’m trialing Roon and it seems to be more than capable.
That PC itself doesn’t play anything, it’s just the Roon core. I have a PC in the living room which does play music, and iMac for work which I also use for background music when I’m working. I have an iphone, and my wife iphone and ipad which are all used. We have a Cambridge Audio Airplay speaker in the kitchen and one in the dining room. I’ve not found anything with the simplicity of Roon to allow me to play from anything to anything. It’s very versatile.
My problem is a subscription to play something which is actually mine on something I own! It’s only used for my music, no streaming services. This is why I’d prefer to purchase software rather than be held to ransom if prices increase etc. There is no doubting though that the quality Roon outputs is out of this world.
I’ll check out LMS if it can do all the above but it looks like I may have to stick down the subscription route. All your data are stored on Synology Account China Site account. Enjoy our services! Are there any other pc audioplayers streaming Tidal? I bought 3. And that is enough. And I liked the possibility that you buy something once and it’s yours. But when the Audirvana subscription came along, I found it even more regrettable that they no longer develop 3. They scared me away from trying Studio at all, if anything then Roon. It’s a pity that neither of them offers the possibility to use it on a tablet or smartphone. For that reason alone, it doesn’t justify the additional monthly costs for me.
A slim version would be nice, especially if you could use the dac dongels and mobile headphone amplifiers on the go. Since manufacturers offer almost nothing in the way of apps. And the app market in general has a gap in this respect – a sensible player that can also stream. Deleeh I think that Audirvana realised that they did something wrong yet they are not up to fixing it properly, instead they play stupid startup strategy called “experimenting”.
The problem is this is not a startup and they are nowhere near becoming a unicorn so this strategy is wrong from day 0. So far I’ve got an email from Audirvana with special offer for Studio for 1st year for 3.
Considering how buggy and functionality lacking the software has been so far I am denying paying for it. I’ve tried switching to Roon but I still hate its UI, I need so much time to do simple things like show only local library instead of mixed tracks from my hdd and streaming services and it has constant problems playing DSD files.
I have never encounter any such problems with Audirvana 3. Testing Mojo 2 with Poly and there is a chance it will also fit my use case so I will not be installing any new audio playback software on my PC. Honestly speaking Lumin finally gave me the pure enjoyment of the music. I also think that last Audirvana classic updates for Windows broke it in one way or another.
I’ve tried testing Studio again but Lumin made stop considering paying for so buggy software. Will I miss classic Audirvana?
